Leave it in the plan, roll it over, take income, or take some cash. Each choice is taxed differently and some cannot be undone. Get them explained by Florida-licensed agents who focus on FRS retirement before you request a distribution.

The Investment Plan hands you the balance. It does not hand you a plan for it.
The official site tells you how to request a distribution. It does not tell you which option fits your taxes, your spouse, or how long the money needs to last.
Your options change when you leave
Once you separate from FRS employment, the decisions arrive together: what to leave, what to move, and when to start taking income.
A cash withdrawal is taxed as income
Taking money out in a lump is added to that year's taxable income. Rolling it over is treated differently. The order you do things in matters.
A balance is not a paycheck
A number on a statement does not tell you what you can comfortably spend each month. Most members have never been shown how to turn one into the other.
Your balance, your options, and the questions to ask before you move a dollar
Thirty minutes, by phone, at your pace. You leave with a written checklist and a clear picture of which choice fits you.

Todd and Amy have walked FRS members through this exact decision since 2018
"Most people we talk to have saved for decades and never been shown what to do with it at the finish line. That is what the review is for."
Todd and Amy West are a husband-and-wife team based in Orlando, licensed through the Florida Department of Financial Services, and focused on Florida Retirement System members since 2018. They work with Investment Plan and Pension Plan members every month. The review is educational first.
